Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois Men’s Basketball Coach Scott Nagy Announcing the addition of transfer defender Ali Diba on Friday. Diba comes to Southern Illinois after two seasons at Abilene Christian.

Diba joins the Guard Drew Steff, Damian Mayo Jr., Davion Sykesand tyler bey and striker Jashin Weber, Rawlings Aligbeand Jorge Moreno during the recruiting cycle.

“Ali has so much experience and he provides us with a player who has an immediate impact on both ends of the floor,” Nagy said. “He’s also a great young man who will bring tremendous leadership to us.”

The Stockholm, Sweden product comes to SIU with three seasons of college basketball experience. Diba began his career at Chicago State in the 2021-22 season, playing five games for the Cougars and averaging 13.4 points in 26 minutes per game. Deba transferred to Abilene Christian for the 2022-23 season and spent two seasons with the Wildcats.

Last season, Diba averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.2 assists per game, becoming the team’s scoring leader. The guard shot 47.7% from the field and 34.7% from beyond the arc.

Diba scored in double figures in 27 games for the Wildcats and scored 20 or more points in seven games, including a 10-game scoring streak at the end of the season. He scored a season-high 25 points on the road at Western Kentucky University. He had double-doubles in points and rebounds against WKU and Texas Rio Grande Valley.

He made two appearances and appeared in five games for the Cougars during his freshman season but missed most of the nonleague roster due to travel restrictions in his native Sweden. Dibba missed the final 12 games of the season with a hand injury.

He made his college debut at Grand Canyon University, scoring a team-high 21 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Diba scored in double figures in three of the five games he played.
