UEM Sunrise, Itramas, CMEC sign MoU to develop renewable energy industrial park in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Group Bhd, through its property arm UEM Sunrise Bhd Signed an agreement with Itramas Corp Sdn Bhd and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to develop a 40-acre renewable energy (RE) industrial park in Gerbang Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

The two parties said in a joint statement that the renewable energy industrial park is part of the one-gigawatt hybrid solar power plant project and is one of the flagship catalytic projects under Malaysia’s National Energy Transformation Roadmap (NETR).

The government first announced the news in July 2023, with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between UEM Group, Itramas and CMEC subsidiary China Machinery Engineering Wuxi Co., Ltd. (CMECWUXI), as well as Blueleaf Energy and HEXA Renewables.

The strategic design of the renewable energy industrial park will attract Chinese manufacturers and suppliers in the renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) value chain, as well as high-tech R&D companies to operate within the park, the company said.

In addition, the Renewable Energy Industrial Park will house a Renewable Energy Center housing an advanced solar module factory and advanced research facilities, among other facilities.

UEM Group Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said: “Securing partner interest from China not only enhances the feasibility and impact of this national strategic project but also underlines the The importance of cross-border cooperation in promoting sustainable development.

UEM Sunrise CEO Sufian Abdullah added that Gerbang Nusajaya’s prime location adjacent to Singapore, coupled with its easy access to major airports and seaports, has significantly enhanced its industrial appeal to international investors.
