MOL and Totalenergies sign two-person time charter agreement

Mitsui Shoes Co., Ltd. (MOL) and CSSA Chartering and Shipping Services (CSSA), a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, have signed time charter contracts for two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel very large gas carriers (VLGC).

MOL reached the agreement through its subsidiary MOL Energia.

The ships will be built by South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and are scheduled to be delivered in 2026.

The ship has a total length of 230 meters and a side angle of 32.25 meters. Their cargo hold capacity is 88,000 cubic meters.

Dual-fuel ships can use liquefied petroleum gas or conventional heavy oil. When using liquefied petroleum gas as fuel, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by about 20%, and emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM) can be reduced by about 20%. %.

Additionally, the specification allows the transport of ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas. Ammonia does not emit carbon dioxide during the combustion process, and as the next generation of clean energy, demand is expected to increase in the future.
