The Ministry of Agriculture and “Azerkosmos” signed a memorandum of understanding on the expansion of cooperation during the 17th Azerbaijan International Agricultural Exhibition (“Caspian Agro”) in Baku, azer news Report.

Under the terms of this transformative agreement, cutting-edge satellite technology will be used to create comprehensive maps depicting crop types in agriculturally active areas of the country. This initiative, supported by Spatial Solutions, also includes the development of digital maps to expand the geographical database of pivot irrigation systems. At its core is the overarching goal of measuring the impact of climate change on agriculture, using satellite imagery as a powerful tool in the fight against environmental degradation.

Agriculture is particularly vulnerable to erratic weather patterns and climate change. Currently, approximately 30% to 40% of agricultural operations worldwide use satellite data to improve productivity and farmland sustainability. These satellites provide critical information for precision agriculture, including crop health monitoring, yield prediction, water management and pest detection.

The analysis of data resulting from the inter-agency agreement is of particular importance, especially given that the country is about to host COP29, the definitive event in the field of climate change.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that “Azerkosmos”, known for its unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, recently launched the digital climate platform https://climatereport.az/. This innovative platform demonstrates Azerbaijan’s proactive stance in combating the multifaceted impacts of global climate change, further solidifying its reputation as a pioneer in sustainable development initiatives.

It should be recalled that “Azerkosmos”, which continuously monitors environmental protection, ecology and climate change, recently launched a digital climate platform https://climatereport.az/ on the impact of global climate change on Azerbaijan.
