Heidelberg achieves targets and successfully ends fiscal year 2023/2024


Heidelberg Druckmaschinen AG is fully prepared for the upcoming drupa trade show (May 28 to June 7). Preliminary figures for the last financial year 2023/2024 suggest this, with the company already meeting its own forecasts.

Despite challenging economic and geopolitical conditions, as well as material, energy and personnel cost pressures, Heidelberg managed to stabilize sales at around €2.4 billion (previous year: €2.435 billion) and maintained an adjusted EBITDA margin of 7.2%.

Free cash flow amounted to approximately €50 million, excluding special items such as the sale of non-operating assets during the reporting year. This means that if previous years’ free cash flow is adjusted for the special items included therein, the last fiscal year achieved its highest free cash flow in more than 10 years. These figures highlight the successful implementation of value creation initiatives, further improving the company’s financial resilience.

“We were able to achieve our fiscal year targets in a difficult economic environment,” said Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ludwin Monz. “Heidelberg’s financial performance is solid. Our value creation plan is an important part of Heidelberg’s future positioning.

As part of its value creation program, Heidelberg has identified more than 250 measures to increase productivity and strengthen its financial base and is implementing them on an ongoing basis.

“The resilient development of profitability and free cash flow is testament to our financial discipline and our ability to deliver reliable results even in a difficult environment,” said Heidelberg Chief Financial Officer Tania von der Goltz. “Orders fell across the industry. During the fiscal year, we achieved our goals and met our forecasts thanks to our early-launched value creation initiatives.”

In the past fiscal year 2023/2024, new orders received were also strong. Although it was down about 6% from the previous year, Heidelberg’s development was better than the industry average due to its good market position. This positive development was driven by strong business in Asia, particularly China.

Heidelberg is preparing for a successful drupa trade fair with technological innovations that will support printers in meeting their biggest challenges. Automation and digitalization of the value chain and more resource-efficient production solutions are the focus of both divisions of the company.

Innovative products in the fields of offset, digital and flexo printing, complemented by collaborative robots for post-processing of printed products, will demonstrate the company’s forward-looking approach at the upcoming trade fair.
