Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois Men’s Basketball Coach Scott Nagy Announced plans to officially sign 6-foot-9 transfer tyler bey – A former four-star back from Missouri who has three years remaining on his eligibility Thursday afternoon.

Bey will join the Guard Drew Steff, Damian Mayo Jr. Davion Sykes and striker Jashin Weber and Rawlings Aligbe during the recruiting cycle.

“We’re excited about Tyler because of his versatility,” Nagy said. “He’s 6-foot-9, a wing player who can guard a lot of positions and is a good athlete.”

The Newark, N.J., native appeared in 18 games for the Bears during his freshman season. He averaged 2.5 points and 2 rebounds per game for Missouri State while adding 7 blocks in limited time. His best game came on the road against Drake, where he scored a career-high 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. He also scored 5 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal and 1 assist in the game.

Bey spent his prep season in Atlanta in 2022-23, where he earned a four-star ranking from ESPN and received three-star certifications from Rivals, 247 Sports and ESPN also ranks him as one of the top 30 small forwards in the country in the class of 2023, while Rivals ranks him No. 138 in the 2023 senior class and 247 ranks him No. 153RD.

Was part of an overtime elite team that won the 2022-23 Elite Finals. He had a breakout game in preparation on January 7, 2023, when he broke out in conference play with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 8 dunks.

He spent the 2021-22 season at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles as a member of the city championship team, and Bey also played on the summer circuit for New York City and the Oakland Soldiers.
