Epson and Amazon to clamp down on fake ink bottle sellers


Epson announced that Epson America, Inc. and Seiko Epson Corp. have filed a joint lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that a series of defendants illegally and expressly prohibited the sale of counterfeit Epson brand ink bottles. Infringes the registered trademark of Seiko Epson Corporation and Epson USA.

Epson is taking this action to permanently prevent the defendants from selling counterfeit Epson ink bottles and to protect Epson’s customers, brand reputation, intellectual property (IP), and legitimate dealers of Epson ink.

The complaint, filed jointly on May 6, 2024, alleges, among other charges, that the defendants infringed and abused Epson’s intellectual property rights; knowingly defrauded and harmed Epson and its customers; and destroyed customer trust in Epson-branded products sold on Amazon’s store. .

“The joint lawsuit with Amazon highlights Epson’s continued enforcement against infringing sellers of Epson ink cartridges, ink bottles and other consumables,” said Jilana Miller, associate general counsel of Epson America. “From obtaining general exclusion orders at the ITC, to raids and seizures of counterfeit products, and regular enforcement through online marketplaces, Epson takes extensive efforts to address patent and trademark infringement in the marketplace.
