Runnin’ Utes Ink Wake Forest transfer Zach Keller

Salt Lake City – Utah Men’s Basketball Head Coach Craig Smith The signing of forward Zach Keller was announced Monday.

“We are excited to announce the addition of Zach to the Utah men’s basketball team,” Smith said. “Zach is playing at a high level and we feel his best basketball is still far ahead of him. He has good size and skill level that will elevate our team. His work ethic and toughness will serve us well all season make a huge contribution to its success.

Keller becomes the third signing since the end of the season, following Keanu Dawes and Mason Madsen, joining David Katoa during last November’s signing period.

The 6-foot-10 forward comes to Salt Lake City with some familiarity from his time with the Utah Hopes. Keller played his first two seasons at Winston-Salem as a member of Wake Forest, appearing in 44 games with 14 starts.

Keller and the Utes became more familiar last season when Utah faced the Demon Deacons in the first round of the Charleston Classic, with Keller finishing with 10 points, five rebounds and a block. He also saw action against future teammate Madsen in two ACC games against Boston College while at Wake Forest.

The Highlands Ranch, Colo., product started his collegiate career with four points and three steals in the season opener against Fairfield. Keller scored a career-high 11 points and grabbed four rebounds against La Salle in the Jamaica Classic before making his first start against LSU.

Coming out of high school, Keller was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN, while On3 and Rivals listed him as a three-star prospect. Additionally, Keller is the top recruit in the state of Colorado, according to 247Sports, ESPN and On3.

After leading the Grizzlies to a 25-3 overall record his senior year, he led ThunderRidge High School to back-to-back Colorado 5A state championships, earning him the Colorado 5A State Player of the Year and No. 1 All-State honors. First team honors. During his junior season, THS won the first of two state championships during his time at the school, earning All-State honorable mention honors for the effort.

Keller was named a McDonald’s All-American and a traveling Academic All-American as a senior while also participating in the annual National Basketball Players Association Top 100 Camp as a junior.
