Pair of MEAC champions heading to NFL

Washington (April 27, 2024) – Howard University Offensive Lineman Amr Danqua (Ontario, Canada) and running back/return specialist Ian Wheeler (Houston) signed an undrafted free agent (UDFA) agreement following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday night.

Danquah signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, while Wheeler reached a deal with the Chicago Bears.

Danqua played nearly 40 games for the Bison, primarily at left tackle. During his tenure, he ran one of the league’s top ground offenses while protecting the quarterback’s blind spot. The Ontario native received multiple honors, including two-time BOXTOROW All-American and MEAC All-American first-team honors. Off the court, he graduated with bachelor’s degrees in criminology and strategic and legal communications.

Wheeler ended his career as one of the most dynamic players in the league with nearly 2,500 all-purpose yards while also setting a school record with three kickoff touchdowns. The former walk-on also shined in the classroom, earning a cumulative GPA of 3.57 and being named to the MEAC All-Academic Team. In October 2023, the Houston product was admitted to Howard University School of Medicine.

Together, the two led HU to back-to-back MEAC championships and a Celebratory Bowl berth for the first time this season.

Danquah and Wheeler will report to their respective rookie minicamps, which could take place the first or second weekend after the NFL Draft.
