The CW signs multi-year broadcast deal with Miss America pageant

The CW is adding the Miss America pageant to its programming slate.

The network has signed a three-year deal to broadcast the pageant, starting with the 73rd annual competition in August. The new deal comes on the heels of The CW’s one-off airing of “Miss America” in 2023, which last year drew the largest audience of any new special at the network (811,000 same-day viewers).

The deal also includes the Miss Teen USA pageant, which will return to television for the first time since 2007. Last year’s game was broadcast live on the CW app.

“We are honored to continue our partnership with the Miss America and Miss Teen USA organizations to broadcast these two high-quality competitions that resonate with so many fans across the country,” said Heather Olander, head of unscripted programming at The CW. “We look forward to continuing the storied tradition of these pageants and refreshing them with a modern sensibility over the next three years on The CW.”

“Miss America and the Miss Teen USA Organization are pleased to partner with The CW to bring Miss America and now Miss Teen USA to viewers and viewers across the country,” said Laylah Rose, President and CEO of the Miss America Organization. The Miss Teen USA pageant has captivated audiences for decades with their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the community, which we are excited to showcase through our exciting partnership with The CW, which combines nostalgia and innovation. This prestigious competition continues to be a beloved staple in homes around the world.

This year’s Miss America competition will be run under a new set of rules that will allow any adult woman to compete, regardless of age, marital or parental status. Early rules adopted in the early days of the beauty pageant stated that contestants had to be between the ages of 18 and 27 and unmarried.

Renato Basile will serve as executive producer of the telecasts, which are scheduled for August 1 (Miss Teen USA) and August 4 (Miss USA). Moderators and judges will be announced at a later date.
