Tattooed TikToker claims she was denied job at TJ Maxx over tattoos, confronts store clerk

A woman whose face is covered in tattoos and piercings claims she was refused a job at TJ Maxx because of her body art.

Ash Putnam went viral on TikTok after she applied for a job at the off-price retailer but received an automated email saying she wouldn’t be accepted if the company didn’t explain why will be considered for this position.

Putnam, who feels her visible body art, such as the horned skull around her neck and her giant silver ring septum piercing, played a role, said she walked into the store to question why they didn’t get the gig.

“Oh, you just don’t have a lot of experience,” she claims the manager told her.

“I asked her if it had something to do with my tattoos, obviously because I know a lot of places don’t like tattoos.”

The manager told her “that’s not the reason,” but Putnam didn’t feel “that was true.”

The 23-year-old went on to question how a young man with no experience could “find” these entry-level jobs.

“So young people can’t find jobs because they don’t have enough work? So, are they going to turn down 16-year-olds for jobs because they don’t have enough work experience?

She explained that some of the most “intelligent people” she had ever met had their bodies covered in “tattoos and piercings” and that their body art had no impact on their intellectual abilities.

“I just think it’s something that needs to be discussed. It’s so annoying.

Although Putnam said she was in no rush to get the TJ Maxx job, she still felt cheated by the store.

“I hate it when my tattoos are the deciding factor in whether or not I get a job,” she said. “Just because I have tattoos doesn’t mean I won’t be a good worker.”

Putnam told the Daily Star she makes a living as an Uber Eats driver and earns extra income through her TikTok channel and OnlyFans.

Some of her other visible tattoos depict images of Satan, including a goat with a pentagram on her forehead and a Leviathan cross on the back of her hand.

Putnam ended her TikTok (which has racked up 8.5 million views since posting last week) by asking if anyone else has been in a similar situation when looking for a job.

One TikTok user explained in the comments: “I worked at TJ Maxx and they would hire almost anyone off the street, definitely someone with tattoos and piercings.”

“I used to be a recruiting manager for tjmaxx and I will tell you it’s facial piercings and tattoos,” another user shared.

“Head of HR here. No company would ever put you in front of a client like TJ Maxx,” wrote another.

However, most comments indicate that people are siding with TJ Maxx, allegedly not hiring her because of her shameless body art.

“Choices have consequences,” one commenter wrote.

Another joked: “Most of the time when you throw the bird to society, society throws the bird back.”

“There’s a reason tattoo artists call face tattoos career-ending,” wrote another.
