Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois Men’s Basketball Coach Scott Nagy The signing of Drew Steves was announced Tuesday.The 6-foot-5 guard joins the ranks of big men in Carbondale from Texas Tech Jashin Weber Nagy’s initial recruiting class.

Steffe is a unanimous four-star shooting guard by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports, On3, The Circuit and MADE Hoops. The signing marks Southern Illinois’ first four-star player since forward Anthony Booker in 2008.

Stef came to Carbondale as a redshirt freshman after not playing in his first season at Texas Tech. He was twice selected to the Texas All-State Team, All-Area Team, Sweet 16 Team, All-Big 8 Team, and was named a top 10 player in Texas by ESPN and GASO. The guard, a four-time first-team all-district selection, was named the 2020 10-5A Freshman of the Year and helped lead the team to a 92-42 record in four seasons.

A native of Frisco, Texas, Steve attended Frisco Memorial High School for four years, where he earned numerous records and honors. He owns program records for points (2,128), field goals made (444), three-pointers made (265) and free throws made (475). He holds Frisco Memorial single-season records for points (599), 3-pointers made (80), free throws made (185) and free throws made (226). He also holds the single-game records for assists (14) and three-pointers made (nine).

In his final season at Frisco Memorial, Steve averaged 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, shot 83.9% from the free throw line, and was named to the TABC first team and All-State teams. During his junior season, he was named District 9-5A MVP, selected to the TABC All-State First Team, and was named to the Dallas Morning News All-City Team.
