Runnin’ Utes Ink Mason Madsen Upcoming Season


Salt Lake City – The Madsen brothers will once again play alongside Utah men’s basketball head coaches as they wrap up their college careers Craig Smith Mason Madsen has been added to the Big 12 Conference roster for the inaugural 2024-25 season.

“We are excited to welcome Mason to the University of Utah men’s basketball program,” Smith said. “He brings upside on both ends of the floor, and his basketball IQ and leadership will impact our team from day one. Mason has demonstrated a relentless pursuit of excellence throughout his basketball career, and we believe He can help take us to another level.

Madsen will join his twin brother Gabe as a member of the Runnin’ Utes after spending his final two seasons in the ACC at Boston College. Madsen also spent his first two years at Cincinnati, where the two began their college careers together before Gabe opted out on December 21, 2020.

In his final two seasons at Boston College, he played in 69 games, starting 27 of them, and averaged 7.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

In 2023-24, Madsen averaged 10.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists over the final 14 games of the season – all of which he started. Had two 20-plus point games – including a career-high 25 points against the Miami Heat and made a career-high seven 3-pointers, plus four rebounds and two Steals.

He finished his final season at Chestnut Hill ranking second in three-point field goals made (60), third in three-point field goal percentage (.377), fourth in rebounds (3.5) and assists. Ranked fourth (50) and fourth in interceptions (22).

In Madsen’s first season with the Eagles, he played in all 33 games, starting 12 of them, including the season opener and 11 of his first 13 games. A third-year player, averaging 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

He served in a backup role during his first two seasons in Cincinnati (2020-22), appearing in 45 games and averaging 14.3 minutes per game. During his time with the Bearcats, Madsen averaged 4.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 644 minutes of playing time. In his second season at Cal, he scored seven points against Monmouth, making his first and only career start at UC.
